Low fat diet meanings
Low fat diet does not mean the virtual absence of fat from the food. The fat content is present in that food labeled as low fat diet but the amount of fat is quite less as compared to normal diet. A recent study in by National Heart Lung and Blood Institute has discarded the affectivity of low fat diet against stroke, heart attack and breast or colon cancer. The eight year spanned study indicates that despite low levels of blood cholesterol in subjects on low fat diet the risk of heart disease stroke and cancer is not decreased.
Saturated and unsaturated fat diet
The importance of unsaturated fats is a proven fact and high levels of saturated fat utilization are always dangerous for heart. Saturated fats increase LDL level in the body a bad fat which causes the deposition of cholesterol in blood vessels and in turn causes a heart attack and hypertension while unsaturated fats cause increase in HDL body levels which mobilizes the cholesterol and prevents its deposition in the blood vessels.
Essential fats
There is group of fats which are essential for body as they help in the body metabolism and are important in cell membrane formation and hormone formation so they should be essentially taken in the diet as body is unable to synthesize them indigenously. Lack of these fats can result in a number of problems.
